Raphaelle, our angel

Our faith story:

"In Him we live and move and have our being"

A special miracle we were blessed with
After a decade of waiting God has given us this wonderful gift.
Our child we named after St Raphael that means "God Heals"
We never knew the name would be so apt
until we heard the heart-breaking news.

For our little one was diagnosed with a fatal condition
known as Acrania at our 3rd month scan
which we believed that right from the beginning
this is part of God's plan.
We decided to go through this difficult journey together
because the precious moments with our angel
would be the sweet memories
that stays with us forever.

The next few months were filled with lots of joy and prayer
and support from family and friends
who showed their love and care.
Mummy attended daily masses to receive the Holy Communion
For Jesus Christ is our life, our strength, and our nourishment.
Daddy would sing the song “Raindrops keep falling on my head”
To our darling daughter every night when it was time for bed.

The due date has finally arrived and we were on high alert
With our hospital bags so well packed
that we even included Daddy's well-ironed shirt.
But little Raphaelle decided to stay in the tummy longer
Perhaps to give Daddy and Mummy more time to prepare
and be stronger.

Eventually the date was set for the birth induction
because a week had passed
and there were still no signs of contraction.
Checking in at Mt Alvernia hospital was a breeze
We were well-taken care of by the nurses and we were so pleased.

Forty hours of labour and there was still not much dilation
Thankfully there was epidural
otherwise the pain would be beyond imagination.
Daddy told Raphaelle that it was time for her
to come out to ease Mummy’s labour
And that no matter what happens we love her and will always be together.
Such a good girl she was
that Mummy’s waterbag popped that afternoon
To signal to us that she would be out very soon.

Finally on 5th August 1915hrs
we were greeted with the most beautiful sight
our daughter Raphaelle Teo Zhi Ping was born that very night.
We were excited to see our bundle of joy that we so adore
Overjoyed to see her breathing strongly
that we could not ask for more.
To our little girl who was born
on the feast day of Our Lady of Snows
Daddy kept his promise and tickled her toes and pinched her nose.

Nine hours later Raphaelle was called home by God
on the 6th August that celebrates
the feast day of Transfiguration of our Lord.
Raphaelle had received the sacrament of baptism
So she is now a new Saint in Heaven.

Daddy and Mummy will continue to be strong
To be a light in this earthly world that we still belong
We will continue praying
for we truly believe that
“In Him we live and move and have our being”.
